Who is responsible for your data
This website, bengallagher.dev, is operated by Ben Gallagher, freelance web and mobile app developer. I am the data controller for any personal data collected through this site.
What data is collected
This site collects personal data in two ways: what you choose to send through the contact form (your name, your email address, what you need and your message), and, only if you accept analytics cookies, how you use the site (see Analytics below).
There are no user accounts, no newsletter, and no payment processing on this site.
How your data is used
Contact form submissions are transmitted by Formspree, Inc. (a US-based form processing service) and delivered to my email inbox. Your details are used for one purpose only: replying to your inquiry.
Analytics data is used only to understand how people find and use this site, so I can improve it. It is never used to identify you.
Your data is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, this site loads Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Google LLC in the United States). It runs only with your consent: nothing is sent to Google before you accept.
It records the pages you view, the site or search that brought you here, your approximate location (country or city, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics 4 does not store), your type of device and browser, and a few actions, such as clicking a quote or contact button, opening a demo site, sending the contact form (never what you write in it), scrolling and following links to other sites.
Google processes this data on my behalf and may transfer it to the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. It is kept for 14 months, then deleted.
Cookies
lang-pref remembers your language choice (English or French). It is set when you pick a language, or when you follow or close the language suggestion, and lasts up to a year.
analytics-consent remembers your answer to the cookie banner, so you aren’t asked on every page. It lasts 6 months, after which the banner asks again.
_ga, and a second cookie whose name starts with _ga_, are Google Analytics cookies. They are set only after you accept, and last up to 2 years.
The first two are strictly necessary, so they don’t require consent under EU and UK cookie law. You can change your analytics choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page: if you switch to Decline, Google Analytics stops and its cookies are removed.
Fonts are hosted on this site itself, not loaded from Google’s servers, so visiting a page sends nothing to Google unless you accept analytics.
Third-party links
The site links to external services such as WhatsApp, LinkedIn, GitHub and Amazon, and includes demo websites for fictional businesses. Each external service has its own privacy policy that applies once you leave this site.
How long data is kept
Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry and any project that follows from it. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time.
Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU GDPR and Thailand’s PDPA), you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data I hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, contact me at the address below and I will respond promptly.
